The author, who was one of the most successful of Elizabeth's Generals, relates his own experiences of the wars in the Low Countries from 1589 to 1601, breaking off suddenly during the account of the siege of Ostend. Dillingham has continued the story of the siege, adding two narratives of the battle of Newport.
