Illustration of the meeting of the New York Society in the main dining room of the City Tavern in 1786. General Steuben stands on a rostrum to the right with other officers, and is presenting the eagle to Robert Livingston, who stands on the steps near the center. The secretary stands at a table in front of the rostrum. The members stand in the background and a drum a bugle corp appear in the musicians balcony to the left.
With the legend of the heads of the members shown, keyed to the names of the main participants in the event.
This was a limited, numbered printing.
This engraving was presented by the New York Society to members of the General Society at the Triennial Meeting of 1935.
Library has 4 copies: c. 1 & 2 (no. 2/275 & no. 73/275) c. 3 (L1997G202) (no. 42/275); c. 4 (no. 150/275): mounted on mat board, was removed from its frame for preservation; gift of President General Richard Booker Wilmer.
Library also has framed copy (P&E L2007D27 [framed]).
