Note
Engraving shows Hale, hands tied behind his back, surrounded by British officers, soldiers and curious citizens, awaiting the noose which hangs from a tree, having been placed there by an officer still on the ladder.
Framed with an excerpt from a manuscript note signed "Nathan Hale" -- apparently not the martyr. For details, see case file.
Framed in a 1 1/4 fruitwood patterned frame. On the back is the following label: "On the roll of our country's heroes, no name shines brighter than that of Nathan Hale. Born at Coventry, Conn., June 6, 1755; died N.Y. City Sep. 22, 1776: graduate of Yale 1773; Captain 1776. I only regret that I have but one life to gve for my country."

Nathan Hale was an eligible member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of Connecticut.
