Refers to a recent act apparently passed for the relief of Revolutionary veterans and their survivors.
Burnham, Pierce and Alden were all original members of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati; Dearborn was an original member of the New Hampshire Society but subsequently was admitted a member of the Massachusetts Society by right of residence.
"It is indeed a subject of lamentation that so few of our fellow soldiers yet remain. Genl. Dearbourn [sic], Ca[p]t. Alden and yourself are the only officers which I now think of who served during the war, there seems to be a stronger attachment to them, than to those who served for a shorter period...."
