Thomas Davies, the artist, was a British artillery officer, who eventually attained the rank of major-general. He painted several watercolors of battles during the Revolution, including Fort Ticonderoga, and several battles in New York and New Jersey.
This print is embossed with the seal of the Society of Iconophiles in New York, 1895, in the lower right corner next to the title. This organization was formed by members of the Grolier Club, who were particularly interested in prints detailing the history of New York City. The Society published prints, such as this one, between 1895-1925.
