Photograph of an impressionistic painting of people standing in the rain with umbrellas, on an urban street with American flags flying from the buildings all along it, with reflections of the flage in the rain on the sidewalk. Painted by Childe Hassam in 1917.
This is a photograph of the original oil painting which is in the Whtie House Collection. It was given by T. M. Evans to the White House in 1963 during the Kennedy administration. The White House website indicates the Bill Clinton selected the painting for the Oval Office and it hung next to his desk while he was President. Stamped on the back of the mat on which the photo is mounted, is the following: "Not to be reproduced without permission from the Office of the Curator, the White House.". .
