Plate from the "Galerie des hommes illustres vivans" (advertised in 1783); later issued in 3 vols., 1788-89 under the title "Collection de portraits d'hommes illustres vivans," (the Washington in v. 2, 1788).
Based on a miniature of Washington painted by Charles Wilson Peale in 1778 for Lafayette.
