Note
A young George Washington looks away from his mother, who holds his arm, as she pleads with him seated on a chair. Three young boys on the left with a dog, two young girls, maid, and cat near the hearth on the right.
Below title it reads: "From the original picture by Chappel in the possession of the publishers."
This engraving is from Schroders Life and times of Washington, Vol. 1, between pages 26 & 27.
This engraving also appears in Spencer's History of the United States, Vol 1, between pages 222 and 223, with "Painted by Alanzo Chappel" appearing below the engraving, and the line "From the original picture by Chappel in the possession of the Publishers" omitted. It then copyrighted by Johnson, Fry & Co.in 1866.
Below title it reads: "From the original picture by Chappel in the possession of the publishers."
This engraving is from Schroders Life and times of Washington, Vol. 1, between pages 26 & 27.
