Washington standing in the center of a room, in uniform, embracing one of his officers surrounded by other officers, many of whom are in tears. Tattered banners hang at the corners of the room, and two guards are stationed at a gated doorway to the Fraunces' Tavern.
This is a copy of the illustration in Spencer, History of the United States, Vol. 2, opposite the frontis page.
