Note
Washington standing in the center of a room, in uniform, embracing one of his officers surrounded by other officers, many of whom are in tears. Tattered banners hang at the corners of the room, and two guards are stationed at a gated doorway to the Fraunces' Tavern.
This is similar to the illustration in Schreoder's Life and times of Washington, Vol. 2, between pages 290-291. However, the 1857 edition copy states below the title that it is 'from the original painting in the possession of the publisher" and lists Phillabrown as the engraver. The illustration on the 1857 edition is copyrighted in 1858. Therefore, this copy may be from a different edition of Schreoder.
