Major Andre being hanged from a gibblet in spite of his request to be shot by a firing squad, as American soldiers look on. The execuation took place near Tappan, N.Y.on October 2, 1780. The mixed method, colored engraving is surrounded by an elaborate border, 18/16 to 28/16. The title, artist and engraver appear at the bottom. At the top appears "Engraved for Bernard's new complete & authentic History of England" This illustration appears on page 694 of that publication.
