This engraving was displayed at Anderson House in an exhibit entitled, "New Jersey in the American Revolution," from October 2, 1999 through April 1, 2000. Pownall served at the Lieutenant Governor of colonial New Jersey and then became Royal Governor of Massachusetts during the period of the French and Indian Wars. Returning to England, he entered parliament in 1767 as a Whig but allied himself with Lord North in opposing conciliation during the Revolution..
