Apparently prepared as part of the requirements for graduation from the Royal Naval Academy at Portsmouth.
Numerous errors in paging; most plates numbered as pages and some blank pages not numbered.
Rebound in full brown leather with original leather title label on spine. Original binding preserved in manuscript's clam shell box. All edges gilt.
Records dated from the Naval Library in London in 1967 indicate that Chapman became a lieutenant on 22 May, 1810; served on the Reindeer in Jamaica, the Channel, and at Plymouth; served on the Pincher 6 May 1815; and on the Racoon on the Cape of Good Hope 24 August 1815. "He seems to have died about May or June, 1818."
