Note
This wood engraving shows a man, probably Captain Delaplace, hastily having dressed and still carrying his coat, on door stoop. He is being confronted by a group of four soldiers, the first of which is probably Ethan Allen with his sword drawn. The rectangular picture is surrounded by a decorative border showing a Roman soldier, a woman in classical dress, an American flag flying over a fort, and a sword.
