Note
British soldiers firing cannons behind earthworks overlooking the harbor toward Charleston, part of which is in flames.
On the hand-colored copy, below the title it states, "From the original painting by Chappel in the possession of the publishers." The name of the publisher and the copyright information are below that. This copy is the illustration in Dawson, Battles of the United States by sea and land, Vol. 1, betweeh pages 572 and 573.
On the black & white copy, the copyright information is printed just below the engraving and above the title. Below the title it states, "From the original pairting by Chappel in the possession of the pubishers.", and the name of Johnson, Wilson & Co., Publishers, New York, appears below.
