L’Enfant asks Washington to read his enclosed explanations for his actions regarding the unpaid debts taken on the Society’s behalf, he apologizes for the length of the memorial and says that everything he did was “through a wish to give a truly brotherly proof of my affection to the interest of the Cincinnati.”
