Contents: 20 March, 1782: "I am detached to this place from Headquarters by the express leave of His Excellency the Commander in Chief, (thro whose earnest solicitations I accepted the office of his recording secretary) for the double purposes of carrying into effect the object of my appointment [i.e. to arrange and transcribe the Continental Army Headquarters papers, which when completed amounted to 44 volumes now in the Library of Congress] and of being enabled to continue my favourite study & practice of law. Includes much about the loss of his library and papers when the British occupied New York City. 7 Dec. 1782: Varick apologizes for not having located certain verses "written on the unfortunate Major Andre who fell a victim to Arnold's folly & treachery." 18 Jan. 1783: New York ... I believe will be abandoned by the Enemy the next Spring, when ... happy Peace will once more bless our Shores.... I enclose verses said to have been written by Major Andre...."
Henry Glen was a New York State patriot and legislator.
