Note
Richard Montgomery, in uniform, standing in front of a fireplace, looking left, head in profile, and pointing with his right hand to a map, hanging on the wall. His cloak and hat are draped on a chair in the lower left foreground. The title is a facsimilie signature.
This is an illustration from Duyckinck, National portrait gallery, Vol 1, page 135. A similar illustration appears in Schroeder's, Life and times of Washington, Vol. 1, between pages 386 and 387, except the copyright date is different.
Below the signature title it states: "From the original picture in the possession of the Publishers." The painting was based on the likeness in an engraving by E. Mackenzie after a portrait by Peale.
