Probably written at York, Pennsylvania, where the 1st Partisan Corps disbanded on 25 November 1783 -- see R.K. Wright, The Continental Army, p. 347-348.
Though the corps consisted mainly of foreign volunteers, 5 citizens of New Jersey (George Jay, Serjeant; John Johnston, corporal; and Solomon Kegan, Phineas Bell, and Jesse Justine, privates) served between 1779 and 1783.
La Rouërie was an original member of the branche française of the Society of the Cincinnati.
