Contents: 1) Request to the quarter master 14 March 1779 for 3/4 load of wood and 1 1/2 pounds candles [signed] Percyval Butler, 3rd PA - 2) request to Capt. Posthlewaite, 18 Feb. 1780 for 1 load of wood and 2 pounds of candles for the month of February [signed] Edward Butler, Lieut, Dty. QMB - 3) receipt 18 Feb. 1780 for same signed Thos. Butler, Capt. 3rd PA - 4) receipt from S. Postlethwaite April 1780 for various supplies [signed] Richard Butler Col 9th Pennsy.a Reg.t - 5) request for 2 camp kettles for the use of the artillery at Carlisle 15 April 1782 [signed] Worsley Eames [and] [Wm?] Butler, Lt. Comd.t 4the ... Reg.t Commanding at the barricks [sic] Carlisle.
On verso of #5: Presented to Edw. G. Butler by C.P. Humrick at Carlisle, Pa. Aug. 2 1900; found among old papers and records of the town in 1883.
Samuel Postlethwaite was the Assistant Deputy Quartermaster from 6 October, 1777 to December, 1782. -- Heitman. Historical register, p. 448.
Edward and Richard Butler were original members of the Pennsylvania Society of the Cincinnati.
Probably part of Butler gift collection.
