Possibly addressed to the gentlemen of the War Office, the Exchequer, or to Parliament.
Encloses three lists (not present) of "persons victualled in Nova Scotia between 2d October 1758 and the 24th December following, both days included, by William Baker Esq. contractor for victualling the military there, exclusive of Major General Hopson's Regt."
William Baker was director of the East India Company and a deputy governor of Hudson's Bay Company; he secured government contracts to supply British and provincial troops during the French and Indian War -- see A. Valentine. The British establishment, 1760-1784, vol. 1, p. 41.
The total amounts to "6d per man per day" for a sum of 14,174 pounds due the contractor.
In July, 1758, the English had taken Nova Scotia from the French.
