Note
Scene of large group of soldiers behind Cornwallis' deputy, General Charles O'Hara as he attempts to presents his sword to Rochambeau, who seems to be motioning him toward the tent were Washington probably awaits. Below the title is a lengthy narrative, in French, summarizing the siege of Yorktown and the naval action by the French under Comte de Grasse, a listing of arms and equipment rendered and a listing of the officers who distinguished themselves in the battle as well as those killed or wounded. Below the narrative it reads: "a Paris, chés Mr. Godefroy, rue de Francs bourgeois Porte St. Michel; et chés Mr. Ponce, graveur de M.gr le Comte d' Artois, rue Hiacinte. A.P.D.R."
This etching is Plate No. 10 of "Recueil d'estampes representant les différents événemens de la Guerre qui a procuré l'indépendance aux Etats Unis de l'Amérique" [1784]. The reference "No 10" appears in the upper right corner of the print.
This etching is framed with a wide white mat that has a gold inked border 3/4 inches from mat edge at print; and a 3/8 inch gold frame.
