The Grampus was a 32-gun storeship to which Cotton had been assigned on 3 April 1779 -- see Paul C. Krajeski, In the Shadow of Nelson. Westport: Greenwood, 2000, p. 5.
Cotton served in North American waters from 1775 to 1783.
