Frontispiece (c. 3) engraved by Robert Scot: The Society of the Cincinnati. To left, an armed figure with American flag, trampling the British shield, drives Britannia and the British lion towards the sea. Above, the badge of the Cincinnati surrounded by divergent rays and clouds; fame with trumpet supports in right hand the obverse of the seal of the Cincinnati. The reverse of the seal is at the foot of the warrior.
Library has three copies; copy 1 lacks plate and pages 71-88; copy 2 lacks plate; copy 3 was an anonymous gift in honor of Harry Ramsay Hoyt, president general (1974-77) and a member of the State Society of the Cincinnati of Pennsylvania, 1976 (76.17).
Advertised for sale in the April 22, 1786, Pennsylvania Packet, and Daily Advertiser (front page), "Just published (By Direction of the State Society) And to be Sold at Jackson & Dunn's Books Store...." See case file (76.17) for photocopy of bookseller's advertisement for this work.
