Below the oval is the title and below that on the base of the monument, is the engraving of The Grange, Hamilton's home, in an oval. Below, in the scrolled title border it reads: "Drawn and engraved for
The Society of Iconophiles
New York 1902" The name of the designer/engraver appears to the left and the ensigna of the Society appears to the right.
The engraving is presented on a dust jacket for a book titled: Portrait of Alexander Hamilton and a view of "The Grange," Published by the Society of the Inconophiles, 1902. On the back is a list of 10 persons under the title: The Iconophiles. Inside the dust jacket, on the left, is a description of the work, titled Plate, which indicates that the portrait was engraved after a portrait by John Trumbull. Also included is a quotation from Trumbull's Autobiography about a dinner at the Society of the Cincinnati. Below the description is the following paragraph: "One hundred and twenty impressions of the plate have been printed on imperial Japan paper and the plate cancelled. Eleven of the impressions are artist's proofs.
Alexander Hamilton was an original member the the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of New York.
