The plan was drafted in 1765 and 1766 by the British engineer, John Montrésor, by order of General Thomas Gage, then Commandant of the British forces in North America. "Survey'd in the winter, 1775," false claim to make it appear more current.
Includes descriptive note, "References," and inset "A chart of the entrance to New York from Sandy Hook, shewing the properest channel for sailing, with ye banks and depths of water" ca. 1:128,000.
