Note
Writing from his home near Trenton, Dickinson discusses Cornwallis' Yorktown campaign and encourages vigilance and determination on the part of Wayne as "our eyes are all turn'd towards you & our expectations great."
"I had the honor of spending the greater part of the winter, '77, within eight miles of his Lordship when he lay at Brunswick with a very formidable army.... [He] discovered no uncommon military talents."
Dickinson was, at the time of this letter, commander-in-chief of the New Jersey militia.
