Contents: [1]. Undated transcription of [Henry] Grattan's sketch of William Pitt -- [2]. [Oversize] Holograph notes titled "From Vegetius"; apparently passages excepted from an English translation of Vegetius, Institutions militaires (see John Clarke, trans. Military Institutions of Vegetius in Five Books, Translated from the Original Latin (London: Printed for the Author, 1767; call no.: 355.00937 V422 1767.) -- [3] & [4]. Otho Holland Williams A.LL.S. to Samuel Smith regarding Williams' "dear girl" [i.e. Mary Smith?] and his unsatisfactory financial situation ([4] contains references to Col Price's acquittal, Gist's appointment as Brigadier, and Smallwood's orders and counterorders) -- [5]. A.L.S. to Major Edwards praises N. Greene and strongly criticizes the South Carolinians for not acknowledging sacrifices made on their behalf; also mentions his companions Hamilton and Kosciuszko as well as the "fate of poor Steward" [i.e. John Stewart?, killed Dec. 1782] -- [6]. A.L.S. to Kosciuszko expresses gratitude for K.'s affection and support in matters of the heart -- [7]. A.L.S. from William Patterson to Genl. Williams concerns dinner invitation.
