Note
After the battle of Camden, Williams was put in command of a corps of light troops. This letter was written just prior to the beginning of Greene's southern campaign, Dec. 1780.
"The Brigade of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia Troops, and Captain Singletons Company of Artillery marched from Hillsborough ... where I am to await the arrival of General Gates...."
"The Board of War in Hillsborough induced us to believe, Magazines at the Post were abundantly [chargd?] with Provisions. The truth is not so....Col. Ford will inform you of particulars."
Both Williams and Smallwood were original members of the Maryland Society of the Cincinnati.
Given anonymously in loving memory of Capt. and Mrs. Robert Bockius and Alice Elliott Hoffman.
