Orders and instructions given to the mixed force of Virginia militia and Continentals charged with the defense of Virginia.
Includes references to courts martial, to supplying troops, to defending the countryside, and to proper behavior towards civilians.
Entry for 2 Feb. 1781: The General ... congratulate[s] the troops ... on the glorious victory [at Cowpens] obtained by a detachment of the American Army to the Southward commanded by Genl. Morgan over 1150 British troops commanded by Col Tarl[e]ton; casualty figures are included.
Entry for 15 Feb. 1781: "a French fleet is arrived in our Bay & ... we shall immediately begin to act offensively"
