Note
Satirical print. Four bishops in robes and mitres dance around "Quebec Bill" while four bishops in clerical robes look on to the right. Lord Bute, Lord North and a Highland piper stand to the left, with a devil hovering over them. A prelude to the American revolution, the Quebec Act, May 20, 1774, was greeted with mixed reactions in the colonies, Canada, and England since it granted freedom of religion to the Catholic French Canadians and created fear among the English for the Anglican Church.

Brigham. Paul Revere's engravings: Worcester, Mass, 1954.
