Heath was in the political action before the Revolution, was a member of the Committees of Correspondence and Safety, and performed valuable services in the pursuit of the British troops from Concord on 19 April, 1775. He became a Brigadier General in June 1775, and in 1776 a Major- General in the Continental Army.
