Library also has 4 copies: c. 1 (88.190); c. 2 (89.1.437; in modern marbled boards); c. 3 (L2016S2): descended in his family & sold, along with other treasures from the Chateau de Rochambeau; ms. note by Donatien Rochambeau (son of comte de Rochambeau) on half title of v. 1: commenting on this copy's background & reception, and writing of his father: "He rallies the strongest patriotism, a real fatherly love for his soldiers. He did not court favor, was consulted by all the ministers, and never wanted to be one. His death plunged his family into sadness, the army felt the loss and honored and respected his memory; and still today there is one of his relatives that comes daily to weep at his grave" (translated in English); ms. correction, throughout the text (mainly spelling of proper names, ex. "Vaine" corrected to "Waine," reference to General Anthony Wayne); bound in tree calf, spine gilt with red & green morocco labels; c. 4 (L2023M11); with 3 portraits on two frontispieces & one plate; from Biblioptheque du Marquis de Rochambeau who was father of Eric de Rochambeau, a member of the RI Society); bookplate: René Minoret.
