Returns of provisions (bread, beef, pork, candles, flour, etc.) and of equipment and supplies (cannon, powder, shot, etc.)
Foster's company defended then abandoned Red Hook, a strategic location controling the entrance to the harbor opposite Governors Island. 23 August: "The Regulars landed on Long Island the 20 first day of August 1776" (p. [7])
"August 28th 1776. The Continental troops retreated of[f] Long Island" ( p. [ 7])
