Full figure, standing to the right, in uniform. His right hand rests on his hip. His left hand holds a map on a pedestal in front of a cannon. In the background is the American flag and troops encamped along a rock wall.
Below the title it says, "From the original picture in the possession of the publishers," below which appears the information on the publisher and the copyright.
This copy is published in Schroeder, Life & times of Washington, Vol. 1, between pages 548 and 549.
A variation is published in Duyckinck, National portrait gallery of eminent Americans, Vol.1, between pages 288 and 289. In that copy, a facsimilie signature replaces the printed title, and the names of the artist and engraver are missing. The copyright is 1862.
Henry Knox is an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of Massachusetts.
