Washington makes apologies for his inability to attend the General Meeting to be held in Philadelphia in May due to his poor health and family affairs. Washington did ultimately travel to Philadelphia in May 1787 for the Constitutional Convention, and while he did not attend the General Meeting, he did dine with members of the Society of the Cincinnati.
