Lafayette, wounded on ground being held up by soldier, surrounded by battle.
This is a hand colored copy of an illustration originally published in Tomes, Battles of America by sea and land, v. II, p. 18, published by Virtue, Yorston and Company in New York in 1861. On that copy of the engraving, the artist, Cappel's name does not appear, but "Eng.d by C.H.Jeens", appears on the right. Below the title, the publisher, "Virtue and Co., Publishers, N.Y.," appears followed by the copyright by John Emmins in 1860. In a later copy of the book, published by Patterson & Neilson, New York, copyrighted by Tomes in 1778, this illustration appears in Vol. I, p. 534, and on this copy both "Chappel" and "C.H.Jeens" are listed but the name of the publisher and copyright are missing.
