Note
Bust, in profile to the left, in uniform. Three medals are pinned to the left lapel including the Ordre of Saint Louis, and the eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati.
The photograph was taken by E. R. Deats, General Photography, 10 So 18th Street, Philadelphia. The original appears to have been a pencil sketch after a Quenedey portrait. The Quenedey work was probably after a watercolor portrait by William Grimaldi, painted in France in 1790 and depicts Lafayette after his appointment to the Paris National Guard, July 15, 1789.
This copy is signed: "To Hon. Walter P. Gardner - Albert Rosenthal, 3/28/34."

Lafayette was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from France.
