Full length, reclining on a couch to the right, face to the left resting against his right hand. His left hand rests on a stack of books that are on the end of the coach. He displays the eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati on the right lapel of his coat. On a table to the left is a scroll and pens and his sword. On a stool to the right of the table rests his hat. In the backround is a window with one of the drapes spread over the back of the coach.
