The two parts are bound dos-a-dos, and paginated separately. Pt. 1, 1 Jan. 1776-16 March 1777, concerns both land and sea operations, particularly those around Boston and New York, but records reports of battles, prisoners, and casualties elsewhere, such as the deaths of Montgomery and MacPherson in Quebec and the attack on Sullivan's Island, S.C.
Describes the general design of the fortifications around New York as being "Errected from Mons. Clairac's Elements de Fortification."
Pt. 2, 22 June 1776-27 May 1777, reports on events witnessed by those on board the Daphne commanded by Captain St. John Chinnery and concentrates on naval skirmishes, captures, prizes, casualties, etc.
More than 32 ships (mostly British but a few American and French) are mentioned by name, among them the Ambuscade, Asia, Beaver, Blackriver, Bolton, Chatham, Emerald, Falcon, Glasgow, Mermaid, Orpheus, Phoenix, Preston, Rainbow, Roebuck, Sally, Thames, Thunder, Unicorn and Viper.
