Note
Elmer, then aged 23 and studying to be a physician, records local mobilization efforts, including recruiting and drilling the patriots of Cumberland County in addition to specific visits to local patients.
Includes several references to the tea burning at Greenwich in Dec. 1774, and the ensuing Grand Jury investigation and trial; Elmer was a participant.
Medical readings include those of Harvey, Boerhaave, and van Swieten.
On 10 July, we went to Col. Seeley's and "put on for the first time my regimentals and went to exercise."
On 30 June Elmer's father died; the same day "news came that Charles Town opposite Boston was burnt down by the regulars of the 17th ...; General Warren killed."
Original (future) members of the New Jersey Society of the Cincinnati mentioned include the following: Joseph Bloomfield, Seth Bowen, Richard Howell, Samuel Seeley, and Israel Shreve.
