Hastily written letter mentions concern for his family and the capture " yesterday" of General Lee and Roche de Fermoy ("This action has done Col. Harcourt immortal honor...")
Date of letter surmised from Lee's capture on 13 Dec. 1776
Also expresses hope that Gov. [William] Franklin will be exchanged for Genl. [William?] Thompson; in this hope, he was to be disappointed.
Galloway had left his home shortly after the November elections and set out from Philadelphia for Howe's camp at New Brusnwick -- see J. Ferling. The Loyalist mind: Joseph Galloway and the American Revolution, p. 37-38.
