Responding to his brother's request concerning books on courts martial, he lists two specific works: [Isaac] Maltby [A treatise] on courts martial; and [Alexander Fraser] Tytler [An essay on military law and the practice of] courts martial. "Books upon that subject are very few extant."
He also mentions the published reports of the Trial of Major Genl. Goodale of the militia in Essex county, that of Major Loving "of the 1st division", and that of one Watson at Worcester in 1810. Other trials not yet published are those of M. Gen. Burbank, Lt. Col. Burbank and Major Graves at which he served as a supernumerary.
