Half figure standing to the left. The portrait is set in a stone arched window, with Wilkes holding a book on the sill with his left hand and pushing the drape aside with his right hand. Below the portrait, on a pedestal, is the title and four lines of poetry by Pope as follows: "Great without Title, beyond Fortune bless'd; Rich ev'n when plunder'd, honour'd while oppress'd; Lov'd without Youth, & follow'd without Power; At home, tho' exil'd, free tho' in the Tower." In the center of the base of the pedestal is his coat-of-arms. Rectangle.
