Col. Mosby, commander of Mosby's Rangers during the Civil War, distinguishes between "treason" and "treachery" : The best men the world ever saw -- Washington, John Hampden, R. E. Lee committed treason, [not] treachery. The secondary sense is an odious one -- the difference between the primary & secondary meanings of the word is the difference between George Washington & Benedict Arnold. George Washington was guilty of treason -- Arnold was guilty of treachery....
