Note
Recently named the first Master of the Royal Naval Academy at Portsmouth, Robertson writes to his publisher concerning proofs [ possibly of an ed. of Robertson's Elements of navigation] and " character & price of the newest edition of Polybius."
Also critiques "Mr. Muller's book" [probably the 2nd ed. of A treatise containing the elementary part of fortification, published by Nourse in 1756] which "confined all his examples to the Hexagon." Muller was then professor of fortification and mathematics at Woolwich.
Notes Admiral Byng's departure for the Mediterranean: "I hope he may get time enough ... to ... perform such another eclat as his father did 38 years ago [against the Spanish fleet off Cape Passaro]"
