This issue, no. 450, May 29, 1776, includes the proceedings of the court martial of Col. Roger Enos, a Connecticut officer who fought at Bunker Hill and then joined Gen. Benedict Arnold on the march through the Maine wilderness to Quebec in 1775. Facing severe weather and a shortage of food and supplies, Enos left the expedition in October and returned with his men to Connecticut. Charged with "quitting without leave," Enos defended his decision because of the life-threatening conditions his men face on the march. He was acquitted and returned to service as a lieutenant colonel of the 16th Connecticut Regiment --p. [1]. The Connecticut Journal ran from 1775-183-? with a weekly publication.
