Note
Chiefly receipts to Homans for military pay received; also included is a requisition signed by Artemus Ward and certificates of Homans' qualifying as a surgeon, one signed by James Craik.
[1]. Dr. John Morgan, A.D.S. General Hospital at Cambridge to George Washington, ca. 1775: certified that John Homans, surgeon in Col. Sargent's regiment has passed examinations and is recommended to continue in his position. [2] Artemas Ward to Ebenezer Hancock, Paymaster General, August 12, 1776.
[4]. an order to pay Homans Backer's wages from 27 November 1777 to 1 December 1778.
[5]. directs Stephen Austin to give Nathan Strong any sums he may call for (account on verso).
[6]. Memorandum of purchase and sale of leather.
[13] & [39] receipts representing depreciation of Willson Franklin's and Hendrick Nutmire's wages respectively.
[17]. from John Shethe to Homans explains that he cannot send cash balance due as he bought horses and sold them for State currency, which is not considered as good as Continental money.
[20]. from John Priest to Thomas Burkman appoints the latter as agent to receive pay, etc.
[29]. a receipt for hay and oats for the Second Dragoons paid for by Homans with his request for settlement.
[42]. Powers of attorney to collect all pay due Private Philip Goldthwait as a dragoon in the Massachusetts line..

Homans was an original member of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
All inlaid in sheets of a standard sized paper watermarked "Michallet."
