Note
"Having been exchanged about four weeks since," he writes of the military situation near Savannah, of personal matters of concern to Gov. Houstoun, and of the enemy's boasts that they only wait the arrival of reenforcements to march against and take "Charles-Town."
"I left Savannah last Sunday, where nothing material had occured, except the enemy's having marched some days before ..., leaving only the Hessians and one other corps in Savannah.
Major Habersham, who would later become an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati, had been captured at Savannah and exchanged and recaptured after the battle of Briar Creek, 3 March 1779.
Portion of pages torn away at bottom, affecting text.
