Note
Adams, Rutledge and Franklin (the Committe of Congress) stand facing Lord Howe, who is in uniform and standing next to a table where another gentleman is sitting. To Howe's left is a chair with a newpaper with the words "AL Gazetteer...kivington" and there are papers on the floor under the table that read "Proclaimation...Rebels....America..." Through the open window is a river with a boat.
The names of Adams, Rutledge, Franklin and Howe are printed below the engraving. Below the title is states, "From the original painting by Chappel in the possession of the publishers." Below that is the name of the publisher and the copyright information.
This a hand colored copy of an engraving that was produced for Johnson, Fry & Co.as an illustration, but was never published in a book.
